Case Study: Tales My Mother Told Me

Queensland Arts Council’s Playing for Queensland 2007: Tales My Mother Told Me gave communities within the Local Arts Council network a chance to bring to life stories carried down through families. The project involved collecting regionally based stories and working with the community to stage a local performance. Director Marcus Hughes led a team of performers, directors, and writers who worked with those interested to create a series of ten-minute stories told through a variety of performance styles incorporating spoken word, dance/movement, circus skills, ceremony, music, song and visual imaging, comedy, tragedy, drama and pathos. The performances celebrated the lives of famous and not-so-famous women that have shared their lessons about the world and our place in it.
